Default Cab 11/12 changeover

Max has been doing some research, looking at the parts book of 1940-41 and it shows that Cab 11 parts are used to motor serial #2G-7782F on 15A .....#2G-6914F on 15 ....#2G-6921F on 30......#2G-7046F on 60s , 60L and G.T.

Can anyone shed any light on the dates?

Default Cab 11 to 12 F8

What about the 8 cwt David? As you know my Cab 12 is 2G 45176F and I think we agreed that it was 11 July 41. Well into the 12 cab by then presumably, given the relatively low numbers you quote for the other models.

Default Not me!

Do you mean Keith?

#2G-? on F8
#2G-7782F on F15A
#2G-6914F on F15
#2G-6921F on F30S
#2G-7046F on F60S , 60L and G.T.

All these motors were assembled in January 1941. Then add say four weeks maximum I would say for them to be installed in the chassis. Unlke GM where the engines had to be railed from Windsor to Oshawa for assembly, the Ford plants were near enough next door to each other.

Default Chevrolets

# 11 Cab:

"Thumb screw type engine hoods" [from # 084XX0001, earliest known is 0842100138 which possibly dates to the second day of production] to # 084XX04001 and [# 184XX00001] to # 184XX05004.

# 12 Cab:

"Alligator type hood" on or after # 084XX04001 and # 814XX05004 to # 284XX01523

CGT:

“FIRST JOBS” up to # 084XX02995

The duality of 1940 and 1941 Models is explainable by the simple fact that GM of Canada assigned 1940 Model Numbers to the last of the 1940 Canadian contract deliveries and 1941 Model Numbers to the first of the British. Production for the British started on 26th August 1940 (Ford) and 3rd September 1940 (GM of Canada). The earliest known 1941 Model is # 1842100169 ENGINE # 3557966 acquired under British demand S/M 2002 [2B1 STEEL DROPSIDE].
