Default Cables go out the back

Good question - actually you will note that the battery hold downs have a tube spacer that sticks up above the sides, this has two purposes one it keeps the battery posts from shorting on the top of the box second it actually holds the cover up about an inch. You will note that the Pattern 13 battery bock cover has only three sides so the cables go out the back.
