Hi All
Back again, can anyone give details on where and how the oil filter is mounted? The plumbing is simple but for the life of me I cant work out where and to what it is mounted as unfortunately I purchased the vehicle as a rolling chassis and a large pile of bits and pieces so its a bit like a giant jigsaw puzzle. If yours is a late 12 cab it will be tucked in sideways on the inside of drivers frame rail just about under the seat area you should be able to match up the mounting holes, 11 and early 12 cabs were not factory fitted with filters

Hi Bob
Here is an old thread on Chevy oil filter locations http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/sh...ght=oil+filter As Peter points out the early location is horizontal in the frame rail on the intake and exhaust side of the engine which is the passenger side of the CMP. This location makes it a real pain to drain as the exhaust pipe is right where the oil pours out. Now to add to the fun there is a service bulletin on relocating or replacing the filter up on the manifold. So you may find the higher location on Pat 11, 12 and fire wall location on for conventional cab Chevys. My 1941 Pat 12 C60L had the oil filter down in the horizontal frame location as did my 1942 Pat 13 C60S but my 1945 HUP has the manifold high filter location. Cheers Phil

You were asking about the OIL filter and Phil's answer is correct...... it mounts on the rear passenger side of the engine with a bracket bolted to the special head bolts. One word of caution.... of you have an original oil filter ut may have the "Weatherhead" type of threaded fittings which are getting difficult to find..... but..... you may wish to convert all the brass fittings and rubber hose fittings to the current North American style of pipe thread.
There is another filter and that one is for the fuel/gasoline and if your truck has one it is mounted to the inside of the frame just about under the driver's seat. Some early models of the cab 11 did not have the frame drilled for the fuel filter but your cab 12 maybe already drilled. The fuel filters are still available and are used for WW 2 Jeeps sold by dealers selling restoration parts for jeeps around $120 dollars US. Keep us posted of your progress with pictures... Cheers

Hi all thanks once again for the info. On my vehicle the oil filter must mount in the old chassis rail position as the engine is original and head bolt do not provide for any attachments. The fuel filter was easy as that was in the same position as my other blitzes.

Would your C15 have a frame similar to the C8 and the HUP......

I have only seen this on the HUP but ...... and I have a picture! ......and once the engine is in place it is a tight hot spot to work in.

Thanks for the pictures. That is definately my filter and mounting bracket, but I wasnt expecting it to be mounted horizontally. Most unusual and I agree what a mongrel to drain however I guess for the sake of authenticity thats the way it should go back. Cheers Bob K |

Found them in the barn today...... 16 1/2 inch square one inch thick covered with a very thin linen and painted over.
Mine are all dried up as expected.

My roof pad was very clearly only above the driver. As far as the rebuilt goes I'm now reassembling all of the front panels excluding the roof, back panel and doors and considering I didn't dismantle the vehicle I'm finding it a bit of a jigsaw as very clearly the sequence of reassembling all that tinware is absolutely critical. Having said that I've now got it worked out and all of the passenger front is back together, but clearly after rebuilding a couple of no13 cabs I would have to say they are a breeze in comparison. Every time I read of some one putting/re-assembling a cab 11 or cab 12 together......
.......been there done that..... was not as funny when I first did mine......but sure is now. Cheers
