Not much help I'm afraid
I am afraid that we have no information on this particular contract other than the chassis numbers allocated to it: 1563362-1563611. 250 built. We don’t even have a date for the contract, nor a customer. However, I can tell you that it is a Mk.IIB which was the final production model. Yours has the front mudguards painted red which could have done by a previous owner, but if the colours are original this would indicate an RAF Bomb Disposal vehicle.
There are only two other known Hillman Tillys left in Australia, so it is a rare beast over there. The Tilly Register exists to help owners by bringing them together, to keep track of Tillys of all marques around the world. By joining, you will benefit from a great knowledge of where to get spares and help within our members, together with a great bunch of members to share your Tilly interests with. There is another of these Hillmans in NSW. I saw it some years ago and identified the contract number for the owner. It had reputedly belonged to a hospital for years and showed no sign of army use. According to the contact list from Rootes Group, the contract was asigned to Australia. Date of Intention to Purchase was 11th Oct. 1944, Date of Order was 13th Oct. 1944. As Mike has said, the contract was for 250 utilities. regards, Richard

NSW Hillman
Hi Richard
Do you happen to know what happened to the NSW Hillman? If was from the same contract and had chassis number 1563585. Last I heard, the owner, Wayne Lane, was trying to sell it back in 2011. The third Hillman we know about is a mystery except that it belongs to Lloyd and Damien Webb near Perth. |

Hi Mike,
Think it is still unsold, I put a guy on to it, but price was out of his reach. I don't know anything about the Perth one, unless this is the one that Wayne now has. regards, Richard

Hillman tilly
Thanks Mike and Richard,
This vehicle came into West Australia in 1945 and went straight to a local town council where it was disposed of 5 years later. Little use by owner over about 15 years then sold off. I never met the last owner, just his wife, but I believe he was named Lloyd and the car was never used or worked on. No Australia army history what so ever. Thanks, Wayne |

I have a feeling these vehicles might have been ordered by the Australian government as transport for essential services, such as hospitals, councils, etc. Somewhere in the back of my mind I had seen that somewhere.

Hi Wayne. Coming back to our conversation a few months ago, do you actually own this Hillman - or know the current owner? I'm sorry, but I'm not clear about this.

tilly
Hi Mike, I bought the tilly a few months back when it came up for sale. Sat in a shed in Armadale for many years when owned by Lloyd.
