Diamond T 969A
Looking for photos / census numbers for British / Canadian Diamond T 969A in WWII service.
I am working on the Mirror Models 1/35th scale kit and looking for markings. Any help appreciated. Cheers Kevin |

Hi Kevin,
Attached are some pictures that might help. (all Netherlands) Canadian Diamond T 969's in NWE do seem to have a number of non-standard non US) features.....although I am not sure how official these features are. Most show two logs fitted to the wrecking beams, some show framing for a tarp on top of the wrecking gear, a slightly different tool layout in the back and I have also seen extra horizontal bars fitted to the grill in more than one occasion. Maybe others can comment if these are "official" mods(?) I hope to start on the Mirror models Diamond T in the future as well, but other projects first. Good luck! Alex, I wonder if those are stowage tubes on the booms for some sort of extra kit?

I'm pretty much 100% that they were solid wood logs/rollers. Unique to Canadian contracts, also seen on CMP wreckers. I do need to confirm documentation on this and to find the correct nomenclature.

The logs will take the wear rather than the wire rope. The log can also be used for dunnage under the front bumper of a vehicle casualty when suspend towing. Again, the wood protects both the bumper of the towed vehicle and the cables of the wrecker. The M62 wrecker I am working on at the museum right now has a very large & thick plank as well as a log stowed on the boom. The trucks didn't come with them, but it was common to add them to the vehicle. |

Not exactly helpfull for markings or census numbers....but these pictures show what I meant by "horizontal" bars in the grill.

Canadian Diamond T's
Hi group.
I may have more to add to this thread but for now. If I'm correct I believe Canadians used the Diamond T 969B wrecker. The " B " being lend lease. The 969A was U.S. issue. I concure with what others have pointed out but like to add that the Cnadian trucks didn't use the headlight guards. I have the horizontal rad guard bars on my truck here in Canada as well as part of the bow assembly that was used for a camo net or for the canvas to disguise the truck as a cargo truck instead of a wrecker.
