Default Fuel tank for light weight airborne Universal Carrier

Hey guys.

I was out checking out a scrap yard this morning and I stumbled over this. Turns out it is the smaller fuel tank as found in the light weight airborne Universal Carrier. I figure it has to be pretty rare. If anyone is interested let me know and Ill pick it up and either ship it to you or hold onto it. It measures about 10" square on the ends and its about 20" long. I did find a FMCO44 stamp on it. Just checking for the TL/CTL # but I think its under the paint.

What you can't see in that picture is the shaft that connected the sprockets to the glider wheels so that the gliders could be taxied after landing. The Hamilcar was so big, it was felt necessary to be able to park them to keep the LZ clear for other gliders.

The airborne variant utilised aluminium wheels as a weight saving measure, I am lucky enough to have a section of one of those very wheels... Obviously can't use it on anything but it's a nice oddity

Jordan, isn't that fuel tank just off another ford built vehicle?, never heard of carrier aluminium wheels?, didn't they just strip non essential parts of airborne dropped carriers to save weight?, quickest and easiest option. This website lists parts removed for arnhem landings.

Default Fuel tank

Looks similar to fuel tanks used on the generator units that used the jeep engine as power plant

Apparently the contract date for these rare carriers was April 1, 1944.

Kevin and all, as another MLU'er told me, You fell for this hook line and aluminium sinker. :P

Actually the fuel tank has been correctly identified. It's from a Willys of France generator. It's a pretty close copy of the UC fuel tank except for being 2/3rds the size.

It was still April Fools Day in Canada when I posted this earlier today.
