11th Canadian Army Tank Regiment ( Ontario ), for Italy June 1943.
Can anyone help me out with the above. I have very little reference material for Italy altogether. Thanks for any help or advice. Cheers Kevin |

I’ve check two different sources and got two different answers.
In Don Dingwall’s publication “Canadian Armour in the Italian Campaign” it has the AoS number as “171” on blue over brown for HQ 1 Cdn Army Tank Brigade. In Jean Bouchery’s book “The Canadian Soldier” it has it as “172” I know that Jean Bouchery’s book is filled with errors so I am more inclined to believe Don Dingwall with “171”. |

Not sure if you want the Arm of Service marking for Headquarters, 1st Canadian Army Tank Brigade or that of the 11th Canadian Army Tank Regiment (The Ontario Regiment (Tank)), C.A.C., for June 1943? NOTE: Neither unit was in Italy in June 1943, both were still in the United Kingdom until approximately 25 June 1943, after which they embarked and were at sea until landing in Sicily on approximately 13 July 1943. John has given you the correct AoS marking ('171') information for Headquarters, 1st Canadian Army Tank Brigade. For June 1943, the 11th Canadian Army Tank Regiment (The Ontario Regiment (Tank)), C.A.C., Arm of Service Serial was ‘173' in white on a Blue over Brown coloured background (divided horizontally). Hi John & Mark,
It was the HQ of 1st Canadian Army Tank Brigade I was after. Thank you. See what I mean John. I told you I had errors in the database. Cheers Kevin |
