Default T72

Probably most have seen the footage of the T72 blowing up.

Here is a series of pictures of the pieces.

I have seen a lot of photos of T 72's destroyed by internal ammunition detonations (Chechnya, Iraq), and by the way this one looks, there was a lot more than just a standard compliment of 125mm ammo inside.

This T72 was destroyed by a Javelin missile. As seen on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOVuaXZSXa8

Watch at the end you will see the dirt spay up from the turret hitting the ground out of the right frame.

The point I am making is that a missle strike on a "bombed up" tank will usually not totally tear apart the hull to that extent. I am guessing the target had some help in the way of extra explosives.

Hi Perry

I have no proof but had heard that it was determined that the tank used in this product demonstration was beefed up with "extra" explosives for a more spectacular effect.

I have always found it hard to swallow that this T-72 was carrying a "normal" battle load of fuel and ammo.

regards
Darrell
