Default Dear questions and answers.

I have a Chev 15CWT that has a 235ci engine and the fuel pump has gone bad. I checked with my usual parts store and didn't find a direct match for the take off pump. Does anyone have a part number for the fuel pump that has the proper fuel line inlet / outlet orientation required for the CMP Chev engine.

Thank you
Gord

Default Don't think there is

Hi Gord

I've looked before for my 261 and 235 engines the currently available pumps such as this one from NAPA http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Det...014058+3999999 all seem to have the angled outlet that doesn't match the original CMP fuel lines.

Some of the older fuel pumps I believe including the orginal 216 pump used on CMPs will fit (I'll pull some and compare them) but I would not trust them or a NOS pump because of the alcohol now present in the gas in many areas will eat the diaphragm. My solution was put a 6 volt electric pump in at the location of the mechanical, inline with the ignition. This also solves the problem of priming the carb when the vehicle has been sitting for a long time. Letting the electric run for a moment before hitting the starter sure shortens the cranking time.

Cheers Phil

There are rebuild kits available for the 216 pumps. I have not bought one but they seem like a good idea since they should be made of current materials for current fuels...... I don't have catalogs to hand to give you links but can look them up if you need.

Default All the same...

Fuel pumps for 216-235-261.... as long as you stay with single stage pumps... are the same and will fit the stovebolt six.....

some early one had the inverted glass bowl sediment filter... later models have a metal cap instead.

some models have the input.output openings opposed 180 degrees the original should have the input angled at 8:15 compared to the clock face...

Will look for specific parts number on Barn stock over the weekend and post results...

Thanks for the help guys. I have my EME helper home on leave and we switched another pump off the #12 cab with less than satisfactory results. It now acts like we have an suction leak in the take up tub in the tank. Sucks bubbles in the gas when on the gas tank and runs like bear on a jerry can.

Phil, that is an excellent video on the light switch disassembly, thank you for posting it. I have a #12 cab with that switch to tackle some day. The electric fuel pump is a good idea, both the Iltis and M135 use them. Leaves no double wether there is gas to the carbutretor when the pump creates full pressure.
