Default C15A air filter on carb too large

Hi All ,
another small problem on my C15A , cab 13 ,
The air filter on the carb seems to be a bit large
and is fouling on the left upright of the cabin ,
the diameter of the airfilter is 9" and it seems like it could do with 1/2" or so clearance to allow for vibration .
Could this be from a different model ?
Thanks Jim

Default Measurements.....

Hi Jim

I had a bad case of CFS...... been fighting a bad chest cold that is giving me coughing fits..... so I got some Codeine syrup which is great for taking trips without leaving the house....

Anyways, in the barn things seems to disappear at the best of time due to CFS fumes...... well I had a bad case and could not find my brand new NOS 1940 air filter.

Usually after an attack of CFS...... Can't Find Shit.... Grant will walk in the barn find the air filter then ask me.... would you pay $10 if I told you where it is.....????

So I found an old one I had repainted.... and took some photos and measurements.... it is exactly 8 inches wide...... so here is your extra clearance.... and when sitting on the table it is 5 3/4 inches high.

Throat size is the same on the original W 1 216 carb as on the early 261 carburator....... 2 5/16.

The inside stuffing is coarse horse hair or one hell of a batch of pubic hair.

Hope the pictures can help you find a replacement.

Boob
PS..... Cough cough wheeze glub glub..... wheeeeeee

Default Slightly Different From Mine

Hi

Looking at Bobs photo there are some differences from the one on my `45 HUP and `42 Pat 13 C60S. I believe that these two had their original air cleaners. primary difference is that both of mine attach to the Carb via a center bolt down into the carb.

Now my `41 Pat 12 C60L the air cleaner body attached to carb via the clamp as shown in Bobs photo.

I'll take some photos and measurements and post them.

Attached photos are of the original air cleaner from the `42 Pat 13 C60S. It is 8 3/4in Diameter Top 7 in Diameter Bottom and fits a carb throat of 2 5/16 OD.

I'll also do some looking in the CMP parts book and the Commercial Maple Leaf Truck Parts book to see if I can find a cross over.

Cheers Phil
