Default Carrier wheel re rubbering got a group deal !

Ok folks i have managed to secure a deal at a firm based in Gloucestershire to re rubber carrier wheels, the lead in time would be 2 - 3 weeks notice and the firm would need all bearings and rubber remains removed from the wheels, i have been quoted £70.00 per wheel which is half the price of what i have previously been quoted in the past and the material used would be "Elastomeric" which has the same appearence and impact resistance as the rubber which would be relaced (if not more) the firm would have to make a mould for our needs.

next question would be how many of us need wheels done ? i know i have two for sure and some of my remaining wheels are not too clever......

the quote given lasts for 30 days. you need to weigh up "How long can i wait for a good set of wheels to turn up on ebay or elsewhere" with " I am in a rush for new wheels" hehehehe these are thinning out a bit now, and as more and more carrier projects are being started the prices for second hand wheels will no doubt rise.

cheers

Richie

Just have to acquire six roadwheels first, oh and of course the money to pay for the everything including transport and eventual shipping to Australia, then someone to act as agent in the UK for all the logistics. - not impossible but...

Cheers

you need six wheels eh..... may be able to help you out there buddy, could get them all crated up, alot of my spares the rubber is jiggered though so they ultimately would need re covered be it here or over there. I should point out Phill, if you see stuff over here and want it just get it i will store it for you until you can get it back Down Under.... either that or i will start digging through to you now ? i could just roll the wheels to you

if we end up with a massive amount of wheels ie more than ten i may be able to haggle the price down further folks.....i had haggled a fair bit to get it to 70... but hey i am a "bolshy" Geordie lad i will give anything a try at least once I should point out that these moulds should also be ok for T16 road wheels, not sure if Lloyds are the same or if they are wider ala Windsor..

cheers folks

Default great offer

Thanks for the offers of assistance Richard and Martyn. You have certainly got me thinking very seriously about it.

There is virtually no chance of obtaining useable roadwheels of the correct type over here so to have them re-rubbered and shipped out from the UK is a viable and financially justifiable option it seems.

Hmmm

Cheers

Richard, If anyone in the UK wants doner carrier wheels (british TL wheels) with knackered rubber but good castings for this project, let me know I must have 26 wheels here which all need re rubbering, they are £25 each with the bearings removed and unstripped of rubber.

kev.

Default Re-Rubbering

Hi all - gee you guys are doing it hard. Why don't you just have a mold made as I did, then there would be no need of machining etc.

Default Mine were done!

Hi Richard
Well done at all the work puting this together. When I restored my carrier I had some of my wheels re rubbered by a company up here in Fife who did conveyor belt and agricultural wheel rerubbering. The burnt the rubber off the wheels (unfortunately they threw away the bearings etc), stuck layers of rubber on to the depth I specified for road and idler wheels, fitted them to a lathe and programmed in the profile and pressed the button. The wheel spun, and hey presto the profile was trimmed.

I've had them on my carrier since then, and although I don't do as much mileage as some of the guys, I do a reasonable amount cross country and off the roads around where I live and there has been no deterioration or separation at all. That was nearly 15 years ago!

The cost was £25 per wheel then for 4, so your price is good.

The one draw back is they are too new compared to the ones I didn't rerubber, still I suppose that was what might have happened.

Nigel
