Global National News, hosted by anchor Dawna Friesen, ran a brief item about the last get together of some of the remaining members of 1CanPara.
Background footage was bad enough with shots of US soldiers, and non1 CanPara related stuff. The ultimate howler was the anchor, at the end of the item, going on air and apologizing that she had been referring, of course, to the First World War, not the Second!!!!!!! Jan de Vries would be pleased to know that he's about 110 years old. Where in Hell do these stations get their research from? Dammit...one call to anybody on this Forum could have straightened them out. (This post is mostly for Canadian members in particular, but of possible interest to our global members.) Currently watching the following Global Regional News...stand by... Well...co-anchors Leslie Roberts and Anne Mroczkowski got it mostly right at about 5 minutes to 7. They gave a fairly good and balanced clip of the last get together in Hamilton, ON, today. I'd like to think that a fellow MLUer got onto the Gobal newsroom and rattled their chain about the original airing. Bit of a rant ends...

I was there today along with some members from our living history group. Jan and his wife asked us to put on a display of kit and battalion items. We covered 2 tables.
I beleive there were 13 vets in attendance today. I didn't have my camera with me but one of the other guys took a number of photos. I'll post some up when he gets them to me.

Good stuff Jordan, thank you.
I had my picture taken with Jan at the Warrior's Day Pde about 5 years ago. It was taken at the SE corner of Strachan and Fleet, taken by his wife, after the parade. I have pictures of the 1CanPara vets marching into the Ricoh Centre, probably the same year, with some help perhaps I can post them. Looking forward to seeing the pics which might be sent to you. Almost 70 years later, now we start to recognize them! ![]()
