Need some information. What is the civilan type of transmission oil to replace the military OEP 220. Was told Castrol Hypoy C would work. Can Anyone advise me. Thanks Arlon Bauer

Hi Arlon,
Castrol Hypoy C 80w/90 grade is equivalent to OEP220. Note that this oil goes into the transfer box, but not the gearbox, that uses engine oil.

Hello Arlon,
Just to be clear, you mean the transmision and not the fluid coupling. For the fluid coupling I have used 20 weight tramission fluid. If oil seals are involved then it is best to try to stay with whatever fluid was previouslt used. Times change and so do fluid requirements; for instance the M135 GMC Hydra-Matic transmission originally specified non-detergent motor oil (1951 and olderer technology) but later on the when putting fresh fluild in a newly rebuilt transmission they went to Dexron automatic transmission fluid. ......
