In London, Ontario, the 'occupy' group shows no bias. Yes, they will disrupt the Remembrance Day ceremony for the First Hussars adjacent to their WW2 Sherman tank 'Holly Roller', but the occupy folks also got in the way of a ceremonial tree lighting in honour of women's rights.
Aside, I know relatives of three of the London occupiers. One is an 18 year old self declared 'free man' to whom laws don't apply. He wants to build a wood hut (here) and move it to some forest up north to live. Another is a 25 year single mother of three with a criminal record. Her kids aren't at the protest so I don't quite know how that's working. The last is a 17 year old, unemployed high school dropout living in her dad's basement. She's between treatments for her drug addiction. The funniest thing I heard was that in Toronto, 'street people' were joining the occupy camp-out. Nice hot meals, company, new tents and a port-a-potty to use instead of a sidewalk. It turns out the 'real' protesters (the ones that sneak home after dark and return in the morning) are upset. They don't like these people consuming their resources without 'working' at protesting. Maybe there's hope for them yet. |

News reports of drug overdoses and physical and sexual assaults within the Occupy campgrounds make me glad that I am one of the 1%.
They remind me of the squatters in Ottawa about 8 years ago. After several weeks of occupying an empty house in the name of the local homeless it turned out that not one of the squatters could claim "no fixed address" on their arrest form.
