C15A Nameplate?

Guys,

Here is the nameplate off of what I think is a C15A. Can anyone offer a positive ID on this CMP based on the nameplate and the attached front and rear views?

Chev cab 12....early41 maybe 42....no lift rings on front wheels..... from lenght of the frame probably a C15a.

Grab it if you can....... some parts may interchange with your HUW.... engine, tranny, T-case, rims, steering gear..?? all good trading chips for parts......

Too bad you guys have so much snow up there already.

when you buy these things make sure you have a good look around for loose parts, doors, seat frames, engine cover....

sounds like you have been really bitten by the CMP bug.....

Nice find - guard it carefully as Bob Carriere is already salivating over it. You are correct about it being a C15A.

From picture 1, decoding the serial number 2844400447:

2 represents the year - 1942
8444 is GM's series number for the C15A, 15 cwt. 4x4 on 101" wheelbase
00447 is the number of the vehicle in order of manufacture, beginning at 00001, for the model year.

If the engine cover and the shift pattern plate are still there, the build date should be at the bottom of the plate.


Picture 2 shows it has an alligator hood which makes it a Cab 12.


From picture 3, the extended running board makes me think it may have been a water truck, although there are no rear fenders present. Check out the frame to see if there were fender braces welded there at one time.

It is hard to hide on the MLU Forum. Ian McColl pointed out to me this truck has been seen here previously. Here is the link to a picture of it taken at the Barrie Flea Market in September 2003.

From the right side it doesn't look like it was ever a water truck.

You are definitely an "eagle" eye. The yellow driver's seat is a dead give away!

My wife is going to shoot me but I picked up this vehicle also. I have some other C15A leads that will help supply the missing pieces. I would like to put a winch into this vehicle along with a trailer hitch. It will make for a good recovery vehicle.
