The other little gem in that movie, Tony, is some filming also done on the USS Macon, one of the U.S. Navy's two dirigible air craft carriers, shortly before it crashed.
Ahh. Mr. Roberts. Another good movie, though I do not know what ship it was filmed aboard. Doubt either is on DVD these days but any movie rental place worth its salt should be able to get you a VHS copy. David

At the risk of turning this into a WW2 American battleship thread, I should be on board USS Alabama about is time next week (Wooohooo!! something I've wanted to do since I was about 12!!!). I'll post pics...

USS Alabama did Atlantic and Murmansk runs until transferred to the US Pacific Fleet. She's now in Mobile. Alabama together with the Gato class sub USS Drum.
Sachmo (Louis Arrmstrong) festival in New Orleans is on the agenda too... I did say wooohooo, right!!!! Quote:

Both Here Comes the Navy, and Mister Roberts are both available on ebay, on DVD.
Good to see some classics are available still. Will make a point of buying HC the N when i next get the urge to shop for movies.

USS Alabama
The 96F with 100% humidity in Mobile Bay didn't detract (too much) from the magnificence of USS Alabama. Here's some pics and video from my visit last week. She's one BIG piece of kit.
