carrier exhaust sources - North America

Hi folks,
About 15 years ago, I found tractor exhausts which were a perfect match for the carrier ones. Sadly, I can't recall where I got them from.

I searched these archives and see a beautiful full exhaust set from Kevin, and the Bosal 190-115 Citron exhausts.

With the cost of overseas post, I have to try for somethign here first.

Does anyone have a current source ( I tried Lordco but they don't return the part number that was in the old post)

I would also be int he market for a pair of just the "U" shaped tail pipes, but again, prefer to find something here.I do have one original to take to a muffler shop as a sample, and I expect that to be the resolution, but I thought to ask if anyone here made them already.

Kevin, Only reason I am shying away from asking you on this is the postage costs from the UK. Might still end up seeing if you have just the end pipes for sale as I might have delivered to Stroud and wait until I visit family summer 2016.

But I have to install a full exhaust system in Lance's carrier way before then.
So, actually, I need two sets... one set for his carrier and one set for mine.

Jim, I did a lot of research to find a suitable muffler for my 15-cwt truck. In the end I fitted a generic Bosal muffler, albeit a different one which can be fitted to the Carrier.

When searching for the Bosal 190-115 Citroën muffler I found the dimensions to be listed as 37.6 x 24.5 x 21.3 cm. If I were you I would take those dimensions to a well-sorted auto store / exhaust shop and find a suitable product in the USA.

Citroen Saco exhaust muffler is the same dimensions..... There are two shapes for this car, oval and round.... Obviously it's the round one ��

For the remainder of the system I used stainless dairy pipe and some nifty Tig welding.

I have done a number of exhaust systems on carriers in the last couple years, and while mine are not 100% as original, they are off the shelf and quiet.

I gat a pair of 1.5" pipes about 6 feet long with 90° bends on the ends. I have the muffler shop match up as closely as possible a pair of mufflers to the original example that I have. I get a pair of tailpipes bent up as per original. Loosely clamp the mufflers in place, and shorten and adjust the 6' pipes to match up with the mufflers. Usuallly the mufflers they find me have larger openings than the 1-1/2 pipes the carrier uses. By using a piece of 2" pipe as an adapter, the mig will close off the rest..

For the pipes from the manifolds to the floor, I clean and clamp the used flanges to the manifolds, and through trial and error get a pair of 1-1/2 pipes with the appropriate bend to fit to the flanges. I tack them in place while still on the engine, then remove them and weld them on the bench. Note they will be fairly loose into the flanges on the floor. The originals have a bit of a ball on the bottom to allow flexing. This can be replicated with heat and a ball peen.

End of the day, the exhaust my not pass muster for a 100% original inspection, but it will function nicely and is quiet. A carrier engine (or any Ford flathead for that matter) should whisper. Total outlay should be around $250 (Cdn) for the complete system.
