Default Aussie Land Rovers

Thought I would share with you my new vehicles. One is a 63 S2a 88" and the other a 65 S2a 109" Workshop. The hunt is on for bits with nos canvas on top of the list.

Must say I'm loving them.

Nice choice Ryan, lots of fun to be had with these.
Certainly do not appear to be molested too much, now you will have all the "experts" telling you to put a Holden 6 in them.....
Rich.

Hi Ryan,
Nice Land Rovers there. The Series 2A Workshop variant is certainly one of my favourites.

Attached is a picure of my '72 S2A 88" which, conicidentally, I trial fitted a NOS canopy to yesterday. It was fitted with a civvy hardtop when I bought it quite a few years ago which I only just removed. I still need to sort out the middle hood bow as the one I thought was correct is too wide and the horiztonal pieces slightly too long. I'm now not sure what it's off.

This particular vehicle is a bit of an oddity as the Australian Army 88" Series 2A's were all made in 1963 and 1964 (like your one above). From what I can work out the RAAF Airfield Defence Guard used these late Series 2A 88" built to Australian Army spec. How many were made is not really known. As far as I'm aware, this is the only one that is known in Australia and there is one in the UK.

It's currently awaiting refurbishment.

Ian

Hello Ryan,

Are you aware of the Land Rover dedicated site - The Registry of Ex Military Land Rovers? It is a good source of information based in Australia with lots of active members - http://remlr.com/forum

My Land Rovers are a bit newer than yours as they are Series 3s.

Welcome to a new level of frustration as Land Rovers sure can offer unique challenges.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Sorry for the delay guys,
Rich I can assure you they will not have a holden six transplant. Both vehicles have been one owner vehicles since leaving the army and as you said, are quite complete.
Ian that is a fine looking shorty. Can you tell me your source of your canvas?
Hi Lionel, yep I do know of remlr, I've been diving through their records and such for a bit. There is a nice series 3 truck for sale atm moment actually. Quite a bit of choice when it comes to land rovers. I'm not use to that.

Thanks for the info Lynn regarding the NZ late Series 2A's SWB's. I would be interested to know if they are the same spec as mine. I'll see what information I can find.

Ryan,
I bought the canopy around 10 years ago and unfortunately I can't remember where I got it from...

No worries Ian.

Here's a pic of my latest bit of kit. An original tow warning sign.

Default short work

A spot of maintenance.
And a new Vietnam task force tac.

I can take a wheel hub off with one hand! No engine crane needed like my old blitz. It's a new world.
