To the best of my knowledge, the Canadian Army Registration Number (CAR) (later re-named the Cdn Forces Registration or CFR) would have gone on the doors. With the spare tire in the way, it may have been located on the hood.

I have not seen occurrences of it on the back. There were commercial plates early on.

As for markings, I did provide an electronic copy of the 1947 manual of Cdn markings to a number of MLUers. It was on my last (now expired) computer, but I am sure if you ask others on here will have it. Actually, come to think of it, I emailed it to myself, so I could recover it from my inbox if you would like a copy.

Default M152 cdn

I've been looking for the link to J D Baillie's pages on M152 CDNs but can't come up with a good link. He had one himself and its currently in the Ashton Armouries museum collection in Victoria. JD had collected a lot of pictures of these trucks and built up a web site with them. I recall seeing the CAR/CFR numbers stencilled above the door on the roof just above the rain gutter. In my years around these, from 1970 to the late '70s when they were disposed of, I cannot recall any numbers being painted on the side of the hoods.
I don't recall any other markings at the time and some trucks had none.

I'll post up the link if I can find it.

Default M152 Site Gone?

After searching all over, for most of last evening, it appears that the M152 site is no longer up. Sad, because it contained a substantial number of pictures of current M152s and some of them in service throughout the years. JD lives in Victoria and maybe someone from the Ashton Armouries will have a contact for him. These pictures should be out there somewhere.

Edit:

I had a quick look at Clive Laws's Ramtank site and under the M37 listings, down at the bottom are a couple of pictures of M152s. One shows the drivers side with the CAR stencilled rear of the drivers door above the compartment door. It would have been nice to see all JD Ballie's M152 pictures added on this site for safekeeping.

Here is the link: http://www.ramtank.ca/m37list.htm Acknowledgements for photos are listed on the bottom of the main page.
