Milcot

Looking for some answers as I am curious.
Today I was just north of Toronto at the Enroute rest area when two Milcot trucks pulled in adorned as MP vehicles.
Are these assigned to Reg Forces or are there such things as MP Reservists?
I have seen the MPs from Borden around plenty of times and they always drive G Wagens...
On a lighter note that I am sure Rob Love can relate to- what's more dangerous than a non Veh Tech under the hood with tools?
Two MPs with screwdrivers!!! Not sure what they were up to and didn't dare snap a pic while they were at it. Funny part is the main wanna be wrench turner was a Major and the other was a Corporal

Not fair....winding me up on a Friday afternoon. And it's RCEME day here in Shilo to boot.

There are reserve MP platoons associated with each Service Battalion. The International MSVS was intended purely for the reserves, but due to the length of time to get the replacement MLVW for the regular army (Mack truck) the MSVS have found their way into the regular force units. Some are covering for MLVWs, and some for HLVWs, which are also showing their age.

The Mack (Volvo/Renault) should be starting to show up this year thru to 2019.

While the two PRes MPs under a Milcot hood may be a Major and Cpl either one could very well be a mechanic in civilian life, or left home an done a couple tours in uniform.

Just being picky here, but the acronym should be MILCOTS...the last three letters being short for "off the shelf".

When I read milcots, I flashed over to the MSVS........I think of them as a milcots, although I realize now you are likely talking about one of the Chev Silverado variants.

The term "Milcots" has been around a long time, and has referred to a lot of vehicle fleets over the years, although the name may not have been as attached as it is these days.

Even the term MSVS will be recycled.....the new 9.5 ton Macks will be the MSVS SMP. Thanks to Neil Yeo for pointing that out to tme the other day.

The army has always been big on acronyms. Seems like it is getting even more dependent on them.

Rob: Yes, in the context of the OP's post, yeah I refer to the "Milverado".

I agree that somehow or another MILCOTS became regularly known as the Chev, although I again agree that it is a widely used acronym for all sorts of DND procured items.

Matter of fact, my 404s show the qual as MILCOTS for the Silverado.
