This box came from a friend cleaning out his shed. By the sound of it there were two others
of different sizes, (which went elsewhere) so maybe a set? Any ideas as to what it is from, there are mounting holes in the back, hinged lid, Height 18in. Width 22.5in. Depth 13in. It's green, and that's all I know. Rich.

Something from the early 60's (dark green inside repainted Vietnam era outside) Studebaker or Inter tool box? Lang PS Does not look Inter as they have a lip on the opening. Maybe a Ford or International 4x2 CL? Last edited by Lang; 21-10-17 at 09:44. |

Thanks Lang, I had not picked the outer layer of paint as Vietnam era, certainly fades to an unusual colour. Have now done a search on Aust Army Vietnam trucks/transport including Studebaker Ford and Inter but could find nothing that matched. It does not look like it would be mounted under the tray as the lid would not open, so I assume it would have to be mounted between cab and tray, or on the tray itself.
Rich.

Yes, you can see where the new paint has peeled off the Bronze Olive dark green.
Almost certainly an under-tray box. Side opening and the six mounting holes on one side. Lang |

From the pics of Ford D series ACCO Studebaker, all the under tray boxes seem to have a lip running across the bottom of the door opening so the contents does not fall out when opened. For this reason I assumed the box was fitted in the orientation as per my photo?
Although it would make it way easier to remove a set of wheel chains. Rich.

Think you might be right that it is a vertical mount. All the hung boxes I have seen have either had strong angle on the edges to support them or heavy backing strips inside to support the bolts. That box looks like there has been no sagging stress with a nice flat surface. If it had been hung it certainly would have bulged the thin metal around the bolt holes. The box behind the cab on the Inter 6x6 looks very close but different catch. Lang |
