I'm trying to find out if these were different axles in size and shape to the standard 1.5ton axles used on 30cwt trucks. Or was it just a different differential mounted on the front of the rear axle?
Photos of LRDG trucks show what looks like a larger differential housing on the axle. Is this just an optical illusion? |

I remember a word used in a conversation with an old time Canadian trucker. The correct pronunciation for that part is, 'ruxle'. Which rhymes with Bruxxel.
BTW, I am impressed that the designers kept a sound piece of commercial technology for driving at highway speed rather than attempting to shoehorn in the more predictable 4x4 component of a transfer case behind the transmission.

I’ll be heading up the workshop later today so can take some measurements of my single speed rear if that helps?
Let me know what dimensions you would like, maybe someone with a 2 speed could do the same and a comparison could be made. Dave |

Hi Dave, I'm trying to work out if the Eaton 2 speed axle had a bigger differential than the standard axle for 1533X2 Chevy trucks. I don't know yet if the differential was different or the whole axle as the information seems conflicting. If I can get the dimensions of a standard and Eaton differential I can then work out if I'm right. So yes, measurement across the differential as in the attached photograph would be great.
