As the title says, does anyone have the CFTO that added the windshield washer to M38A1 CDN and CDN 2’s?

The washer I remember was commercial parts with a vinyl bag. The pump was a squirt plunger pump on the dash. It was/is brittle white plastic that was rather unreliable at the best of times. There were rubber hose(s?) from a clear bag hanging on two hook up front against an inside fender wall. Combining weak washer force, pathetic flow, and vacuum wipers is a very bad combination for a safe (and defensible) driving experience.
My suggestion is a small in-line 24v pump with a discrete dash panel flip switch.

The CFTO is not in the C30-100 series where the Jeep mods would normally be found. Rather it was a modification in the C30-010 series, which was more general for the SMPs, and that particular modification covered the Jeep, the 3/4, the old deuce and the 5 ton if I remember correctly.
I'll have a look at my holdings and see if I have it, but I don't have all the C30-010 series...just smatterings of them. It was the same kit supplied for all the M-series, held under a Cdn NSN. |

Rick: I don't have the CFTO, but if Rob isn't able to locate it, I can help by providing actual measurements, locations etc if needed.
I have seen two different reservoir types for the washer fluid: the bag style, and a cylindrical rigid plastic tank. Otherwise, to my knowledge the remainder of the components are the same. With M38A1's I have also seen mainly 2 variations of where the squirt nozzles are located on the hood or cowl. It will be interesting to see what the CFTO specifies. I suppose the performance of the squirt pump is subject to a lot of variability as noted by Terry, but the ones I have had work very well in terms of pumping out a strong, full stream with each pump. If not aimed correctly, the stream will shoot right over the top of the windshield. Practical performance however, considering the near vertical windshield and the usual performance of the vacuum wipers, isn't exactly what you get in your average modern car.

Thank you, I purchased the kit years ago. It carries Trico part number AWL8-1AL with a NSN of 2540-21-xxxx-6085 (where the x’s are unreadable). It was packed by Mil-quip in 1985. The squirter nozzle is the style that mounts to the cowl.
