Info needed: Helmet paint colours

Looking for advice for a suitable colour to repaint a WW2 Mk3 turtle helmet. It was repainted black post-WW2 for civilian emergency service and I want to repaint it in a wartime colour.

I can buy matt Khaki Green No.3, SCC No.2 Brown and SCC 14 No.15 Olive Drab in off the shelf spray cans, which colour would be most suitable?

Hanno, it appears from original painted examples and wartime imagery that you have a bit of latitude when it comes to colour choice for a Mk III helmet.

It seems the helmet colour tends to look more like green with a brownish hue, rather than SCC No2 Brown outright. I have ordered spray cans with all three colours and will do some testing.

I will also check if the original base colour can give me some clues.
