Don't worry, I failed on my first try too.
Keep the images below 700 pixels wide and try file size less than 100K. I've only been able to atttach a file using the browse function in the "Attach file:" area (I know it sounds obvious but...). These guides helped me to make it work. I think there is an FAQ on this as well. Good luck, looking forward to seeing the photo. |

From reading the thread you gave me Tony I agree it is a C8. Is the bell housing and front axle the same as the civillian trucks of 1940?
Of course the steering arm would be different as it is RHD. The rear axle looks the same as GM civilian stuff but did they use adapters to go to the military style wheels? Thanks, John

They fitted adapters to take the 9.00-13 rims . Quite a few C8's here have had civilian 16" car wheels fitted , as the 13 " tyres were hard to find , owners chucked away the military rims and adapters , and fitted standard car wheels . The gear box uni joint in the C8 is a odd one , it's from the 1940 1/2 ton pickup WITH 4 SPEED gearbox . The 4 speed was a option on the 1/2 ton pickup , most of them had the car type 3 speed box , with floor shift . But if you ordered the 4 speed box in your 1/2 ton , they fitted a larger uni joint , this is what the C8 has in it . So don't buy a 3 speed uni , it won't fit . The uni was a weak point too, as many of them broke . TRA280220 is my engine no. in the C8 . The C8 is really a backyard special, GM Canada used "a bit of this, and a bit of that " in the truck , they seemed to use whatever was available from the civilian production line . Mike

I have a complete 1946 1ton chassis available to cannibalize if I want it. Just eyeballing things it looks like some of it will fit. I have a 216 and the transmission is still in the C8, but I haven't seen how the clutch linkage on a C8 is designed. Does it have a cross shaft like the throttle linkage or does it use a RH release fork?

John,
The clutch shaft is a standard RHD one , you will find one one on another CMP somewhere in your area . If you need the pedals and linkage , you will have to look around , I am not sure what fits from the later cab 13 models . I have the 1941 DND Chev parts book, it tells you what fits from other models like , C15 , C15A etc. I suggest you get a copy of it from Alex Blair . I do have it on CD , if you need a copy . It's also worth getting a copy of the civilian 1940 Truck parts book, you can cross reference to it , compare part numbers , and see what fits the C8 . I also have the 1A2 body plans , I had to make a new body for mine . Mike

Mike, if you wouldn't mind I'd like a copy of the CD. This truck is down a few vehicles on my to do list so it is research time for now. The F15 has priority! Cmperry4, Yes I should pop over to Shilo. I know several of the people over there and it really isn't very far away. It is just how do I get away from the airmuseum? Thanks for reminding me of a good resource.

yes john, there is the motor and trans still in that 1 ton chevy frame, i think it is in good shape. also my mom works at the museum and has all the keys to the storage buildings where the gregg collection is stored. also clive is an excellent tour guide.
we tried to save the cmps in churchill, but they went for scrap, very nice because of no rust. did you get the cmp that is near my dad's place????? you posted pictures last spring on it. thansk |

Yes KoO. Idid make arrangements to get the early F. It will be going to Phil Innes as I have too many projects. But at least it isn't going for scrap.
