I found this in the SUN newspaper this morning!!!
It can also be found at:- http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007370286,00.html "A HEARTLESS German farmer has demanded thousands of pounds from British families for the bodies of loved ones shot down in the Second World War and buried on his land. Greedy Horst Bender refuses to allow families to give their fighter pilot relatives a proper military burial unless they hand over £5,000 each. One relative branded Bender “shockingly insensitive”. Four Brits and two Canadians were in the Lancaster MK1 bomber shot down over Geinsheim, near Darmstadt, in August 1944. Locals recovered body parts of three and buried them. Allied troops moved them to a military cemetery. The rest lay hidden in a field until 2003. Bender gave permission for the bodies to be dug up, but then demanded the money. Terence Gower, 65 — son of co-pilot Sgt Leslie Gower — said: “It is my dearest wish to give Dad a proper funeral.” Bender said: “Everyone wants to dig, but not to pay damages.” " I have also sent this to the CVWM for their information.
