Default CMP 3ton tipper (canadian or Aussie)

Maybe I already asked for infos about CMP tippers in the old forum, but I'd like to make a model of a F60S or C60S tipper.
I've seen that canadian and aussie tippers were different:
aussie had different body and twin rear wheels. Is there any other difference?

Could you please tell me where to find some pictures and plans to make an aussie model?
Thanks

Barnaba,

See Keith Webb's page at http://www.oldcmp.net/tippers.html for pictures of the Aussie model.

Hope this helps,
Hanno

Hanno,
thanks a lot for the link: nice pics.
What about wheels? How to make the 7.50x20. They look like the GMC CCKW ones.
Now I need some plans and data about the hoist system. Any idea of a book or a manual where I can find these???

Thanks again,

Hi Barnaba

You are about to receive 12 images of a tipper we have in our Museum. At this stage I haven't locate a manual or printed information but I am still looking.

The hoist mechanism - looking towards the front of the truck.

I haven't photographed the inside of the tray but from this image you will notice that the underside of the tray has a wooden floor. However the inside of the tray is steel.

I hope these are of some help. If you need other images etc. just ask.

Many thanks for these pictures: they'll be essential in making my model.
As written in one of the tables, it's a tipper n°3. Which are the differences between this and other versions?
I've seen that the rims are different from GMC CCKW ones: there are 8 smaller holes instread of 6 and the tyres are 8.25x20 instead of 7.50x20. Any idea of vehicles using similar wheels?

Through your images, I've tried to sketch the hoist works. It's the most complex tipping solution I've ever seen!!! Please correct me if I've not understood. The red circles show areas that I have imagined, but not seen in the pics. Please forgive me in advance for my bad English.

The jack is fixed horizontally (the rear is hinged to a bar) and it pushes something (I've not seen what it is) pulling the two U-shaped brackets. The next bracket is hinged to the same bar as the jack and turns around it. Then the other parts are obvious. Have I got it?
Who was the hoist made by? An australian make, or Heil or Gar Wood?

I'll be very grateful if you'd take some other shots of the body, in particular of the "red circled" areas, of frame of dumper and tray and of the hinge between the tray and the mainframe in the rear.
Thank you very much.

Default The origins of "Blitz"......

Hi Barnaba..
In Italy you refer to the Fiat 550 as the "cinquecento cinquanta"..
and it is called that by everyone...
In Australia ,they speak English,or a dialect of English but they also drink a lot of beer...
When the CMP's were first brought to Australia the first guy that saw one had drank too much beer and when he saw his first CMP truck he was in the act of throwing up..from too much beer..
The sound of him puking sounded like...."BLIT-z-z-zz"..
His friends hearing him calling.."BLITz-z-z-z-" thought that was the name of the truck..and the name stuck...just like "cinquecento cinquanta"..stuck to the Fiat 550..
So for the past 60 years ,in Australia ,the CMP truck have been called "Blitz"trucks...
(Historical fact..according to Alex...)

Default The Term "Blitz"

Hi Barnaba

Use the Search Button and find the thread from the Supreme Commander entitled "A Question For You Aussies". There are many explanations posted.

I'll take some more photographs next week and try and get more details.

Bob

Default DUAL WHEELS

I read somewhere in the old MLU forum that the dual wheels used by CMP tippers were 8.25x20. On the contrary, in this page
http://www.users.bigpond.com/ROD_DIERY/WHEELS.html by Rod Diery is written that were 7.50x20.
Were the military tyres 7.50" and the civilian 8.25" ???
Thanks

Default More Tipper Pics

Hi Barnaba

Crawled under the truck again today and obtained another 13 images. The first 10 are of the ram and lifting mechanisms with the last 3 being the swivel point of the tray. I haven't determined the manufacturer of the lifting mechanism as yet, we need to lift the tray and do some cleaning up and try and find a makers plate.
