Hi Guys. Has anyone exported any military vehicles from India. It would appear to be allowed however. I just wondered if any one has done it. Cheers Adam |

Bangladesh seems to have a lot more WW2 vehicles still running around than India. Chevrolet 1 1/2tonners are really common, many having the front axle replaced with a non-driving type and of course all fitted with high sided wooden boxes gaily painted. Burma also has a lot of CMP and in fact their military still have some in service but a bit harder(though not impossible) to buy and export something from there. Buying is the problem - there are numerous reputable international shipping agents who will get the vehicle home for you. The only sensible way is to find a vehicle and go look at it (preferably have a few to choose from). It is not that they will set out to rob you any more than buying a vehicle sight unseen from USA but their honest idea of what is "concourse", restored or excellent condition falls well short of western standards. I have bought some aircraft from India (WW2 Piper L-4 Cubs and Stinson L-5's). Shipping was no problem but the advice above about buying is from hard earned experience! Lang |

The South Asian bureaucracy is there for reasons most of us can't begin to understand, it would be prudent to NOT annoy or pull a fast one on the numerous officials and functionairies. If someone objects they will tie you up in endless courts, commissions and agencies. I suppose the best self-defence is not to use any words that resemble or hint at historic or military. Both will trigger questions.
