clean all the oil off of the shaft and then let it sit outside for a day or so to get some rust patina on it.

funnily enough exactly the same problem as my track has some seized links its taking a lot of pulling up and like yours its slipping on the shaft. I think the shaft is plated so not sure it will rust, but I am sure getting rid of the grease will help. Frustrating, really they need to have a tooth mechanism rather than a clamp on a shaft.

Andrew, Luck would have I had previously modified a standard ratchet strap you see holding loads down on most lorries. I had to re-profile the hooked ends with a grinder to allow them to hook into the track centre holes.
This is a must have tool and would advice every carrier owner to have a set as you never know when that 70 year old jack will let you down, keep the original track jack for display purposes and let the modern stuff do all the pulling. Kevin.

yes indeed. I borrowed a pull ratchet winch and wrapped a chain around both sides and hey presto its done. I cannot see any reason why the original will not work other than as mentioned grease on the various parts. as a design, they would seem flawed to me, but I cannot see inside the main part as it is riveted together. Anyway, job done! thx
