Not from me, but I heard from a fellow in the know that the CMPs that are at the Stan Reynolds museum in Wetaskiwan Alberta, are going to be available for sale starting next week.
If some of you sleuths are going to 411.ca the phone number, just know that there is the Stan Reynolds museum, which is part of the tractor salvage yard (that is who has the trucks for sale), and there is also the Reynolds-Alberta museum. The Reynolds Alberta museum is a provincially funded museum which was started with some donations from Stan, and because it is owned and funded by the oil rich Alberta govt, does not sell it's artifacts so don't call them. |

You know it always sort of bothers me when I see a museum selling off parts their collections. A museum near me has been selling off military vehicles and parts for the last several years since the death of the founder. Many if not all the vehicles sold so far were collected by one individual the founder and he was I am sure aware that much of what he collected was not destined for display. But many other vehicles, aircraft were donated and I always wonder are the terms of the donation being honored.

I don't know if donations applied to Reynold's. They were always advertising in the Western Producer to buy anything green. I recall one time when one of our locals scooped them on a T28 or something along those lines. Reynolds called first, but the snowstorm meant he showed up late. Reynolds was not happy, to say the least.

They have one of the best, if not the best collection of aircraft in private collector hands in the world. The cmps and other kit are in poor condition and were never restored as far as I can see. They are very restorable though. I undersatnd he was a fighter pilot so his true love lies there.\
They had a Sabre on a trailer that had just arrived when I was there last. Search this site and you will find a bunch of pictures I posted of the vehicles there. My cds are all in storage now so I can not send anyone current pics Next time I am in Edmonton with some time I will swing down and take some pics, though the last time I was there, they closed the museum from sept. to spring sometime. If this is the truck I am thinking of, then a prospective buyer had best look it over before paying any real amount of money. I actually had a deal to buy it almost a decade ago, but backed out when ownership of the truck was suspect. Looks like that has been sorted, it was not the current vendor who I was dealing with, but rather a renter.
The guy had used a front end loader to move it around, and had bent the driveshaft and I can't recall if the frame took on some damage too. But the cab was in very good shape, having been an airforce truck it wouldn't have had much field time. Some thought that it was part of the radar convoy unit. I can't say myself, but there was some odd title on the dataplate. |

What caught my eye was the arrangement and placement of the shift levers. I don't think the shift knob with the OD is orginal. But does anybody have and idea what the shift lever between the transmission and the normal transfercase lever is? Is it simply a PTO shift on the transmission?

Hello Jim.
Wondered where that "Radar" CMP had gone to. Peter Ford and I had a look at it about 10 years ago in the Ft. Garry area of Winnipeg and it disappeared from that area a couple of years later when a new subdivision went in. The truck is one of an 8 vehicle Radar Caravan developed by Canada during WW2. Peter had researched the details of the caravan, but we were unable to confirm exactly what equipment this particular truck carried. It was clearly set up for a lot of electronic gear, as one could trace a series of electric blowers around the perimeter of the truck at approximately chair rail height and the center of the box roof held a large porcelin insulator, possibly a communication antenna mount. The specific Data Plates that identified the equipment setup for each truck in the caravan were made of a hard black 'plastic' designed to be broken easily if the vehicle had to be abandonned, and I believe Peter's research indicated each vehicle carried a demo charge as well. The plate was gone in this truck, but one could still see where it had mounted. This particular vehicle would have been mated up with another one in the caravan. The two vehicles would approach each other from the left side about eight feet apart and park opposite each other. The lower left side would drop to form a walkway, with the upper half forming a roof. A similar setup would take place with the second vehicle. A series of hooks around the outside perimeter of the opening on each truck allowed a canvas cover to be installed, thereby joining the two vehicles together with a weather resistant walkway. Peter's research on these Canadian Radar Caravans also indicated at least one of these caravans (personnel and all) had been requested to be seconded to the US Military to provide air protection for the Panama Canal during the war. This truck was part of a caravan that served at RCAF Station Winnipeg during or immediately after the war. The cab showed the original green wartime paint with Royal Canadian Air Force printed out in small caps, with the wartime reg'n number below it. In it's latter service years if got the newer Hazard Yellow paint job, the initials RCAF and a new numbering system. After demob, the other seven vehicles were sold off, but this one lingered at the base for a few more years as a 'smoke shack' before being sold. It disappeared onto civvie street for years until surfacing in Ft. Garry when Peter and I spotted it. The owner then wanted the running gear to build a mud truck, but probably ran out of time when the city expropriated the property for development. Hope this info helps. David |

These vehicles have been advertised quite a few times over the past 2 years.... price seems to have drop down a bit as they are not moving....
There was a story that they had been used in a local movie as vehicles of a foreign government...... see the red star on the truck doors. There were a number of detailed pictures shown on previous postings..... our conclusion was that they were missing sufficient key parts that they would best be described as parts trucks...... you would really need both to make a good one........ so a package deal is probably the best approach.... but defenitely not the $3500 asking. At the going price for scrap steel of less than $50 per ton they are not going to move soon. Buyer should visit and have a first hand look . Bob C. Bob

You could always use it as a tree chipper down there,just stay a safe distance back when you throw the branches in the auger!!Better yet just drive into the tree and let the auger work at it!That snowblower is too small for our Manitoba snowdrifts which is probably why he is selling it.Good for sidewalks though. You obviously haven't seen our Mountain Ash eucalyptus trees, they will leave your trees for dead. Mountain Ash is a hardwood not soft pine. (Eucalyptus regnans, the tallest of all flowering plants). I found this to back up my thoughts. www.treecanada.ca All trees in Canada can be distinguished as being a conifer or deciduous tree. Conifers are often called evergreens or needle-leaved trees (although there always exceptions). Conifers are also known as softwoods. Deciduous trees are often called broadleaf trees because most shed their leaves in autumn. Deciduous trees are also known as hardwoods. Maybe we could turn it into a vacuum cleaner and suck up the dust instead. Still it looks like a good one to get. Regards Rick
