Unfortunately not running as yet Having trouble with distributor ,coil producing spark but not being distributed. I will grab another cap and rotor shortly and see how it goes I had the FORDson pulling initially with the kids steering -They had a ball with that ,then when it got closer to the shed changed to pushing while the wife steered it in -she even had a smile on her face at the end I am sure my run of luck with the wife will abruptly come to a horrible and gruesome end as it usually does very shortly -I just cant help pushing my luck

Finally Got the C8 motor back from the machinist today Not overly "impressed" by the experience coming in at just under 30% extra from first price estimate with a raft of problems arising in its reconstruction

| But don't let it put you off Quote:
Then when the engine was back in the truck it forever had a knock in it. They then went out of business. But that was in the 1970s, around 1976 if I recall. I still have the engine which is in a 46 Chev truck. One day (if it is not full of rust) I'll find a good use for it. As I remember we drove the truck for less than a year.

| motor

Hi Andrew Now you can at least get on with assembling the motor , after waiting so long for the bits to arrive and the rest ... I give you 10 out of 10 for sheer patience .. It's a shame that all of local the places where we used to buy the parts are long gone . I've been very fortunate with motors .. I seem to find them in reasonable shape and I get away with new rings and bearings and a polish of the crank journals with fine grade emery cloth ( a trick the local engine man told me about, it smooths down those ridges up to 1 or 2 thou high ) ... so far , never had a failure. I've done a 46 Dodge ute, a 41 Ford motor and a Jeep motor and the C8 motor and the series 1 Land Rover motor with new rings and big end bearings. I think modern oil has something to do with it too as it seems to compensate for less than perfect tolerances .. The Ford I did had one bad rod , the new full floating rod shells ( bought from Hillman spares in Canterbury road..or was it Whitehorse road ) were loose on that rod , you could hear it knocking when cold but it stayed like that for all the time I drove it . It even passed a Tasmanian RTA roadworthy During its life, that Ford block had suffered a crack on the very front RH bank , a very clever person had bronze welded the crack and machined it flat .. thats a skill

It certainly is a releif to have it back in my shed and ready for reconstruction All part of the learning curve i suppose ,Will have a better idea where to source gear from next time and what to look out for In the end EGGE I found gives very prompt service at the best price for bearings and some motor components to suit the 216 and chevs of the 40"s for other components. Thanks for the heads up on those Mike and Jim . The rest are all most impossible to get to communicate with you Started making an engine stand last night for the rebuild
