Default Heydrick's Car Found ?

See http://zpravy.idnes.cz/foto.asp?r=do...303_domaci_pje

Story is quite amazing. A car has been found in a barn cose to Hradec Kralove (Königgratz), old Mercedes 320B. The founder planned to repair the car and have a nice veteran, but when he started the repairs, he noticed that the right-hand part of the car, esp. the rear, was extensively repaired already somewhere in the past and he recalled the Heydrich assassination - comparison with the photographs from the site of the attack show, that these old repairs are exactly matching the damage from the bomb blast. Experts from Military Historical Institut confirmed that and they will send the car to police forensic experts. The founder and owner of the car is of course delighted and already said that he will donate the car to the military museum.

Apparently the car was confiscated in 1945, then served with police for some time, then it was stored in army reserves, then most likely sold or something as it was again in the evidence in early 1960s and then the owner left it to rust in the barn, or so it seems.

Quite a story behind that Mercedes. I hope they are able to establish the true provenance, and are not tempted to "believe" it´s history.

Hi Malcolm
it is possible that you are right.
In czech TV was shot about this car. The Czech military museum are speaking with the owner still 6 months. Until now it was hidden information. The last information is, after renovation will stay the car in the museum.
Only the future show the true.
Radek

hello Radek nice to hear from you...hope all is well with you and the family....R.H was N0 3 in the Nazi hirachry...so a top man...he must have been an acomplished sort of a chap as he could fly, compose music and was a very good orginiser...some of the things he brought in your country are still there....Social Security,Workers benefits,Free school meals, help for pensioners etc....probably could do with somebody like him here these days but without the extreme polictical views......regards malcolm

Gday Hanno

Interested to hear you elaborate on what you think is the cars history. Not the real deal?

My understanding is that Heydrich was a nasty bastard. I know one shouldnt take to much stock out of movies but the one where he is portrayed by Kenneth Brannagh (I think that's how his surname is spelt) sent a chill down my spine. The movie also contained a brilliant performance by Colin Firth.

Hallo Tony,

Not sure what you mean, as I don´t elaborate on what I think is the car's history. I have no opinion about it, all I meant to say is that in cases like this it is important the true provenance of the vehicle in question is established, rather than looking for clues which confirm the history now presented, while disregarding the clues which might contradict it.

My F15A has a nick in the side of the body, and I have a wartime accident report which could be used to explain how the nick got there. 1+1=2? It´s not that easy. . .

There are too many HMV´s with a made up history, while it is rare to be able to establish any vehicle history at all. On the other hand, many aircraft of which detailed records are kept, are no longer the thing they depict as 80% or more of the actual aircraft has been replaced to get it into the air again as a genuine Battle of Britain veteran or whatever

Hanno

Default R-Heyriechs car

we seem to be getting away from the car itself(probably my fault for portraying RH as a talented but diffident human being)...hopefully the car will turn out to have the correct provenance...then you will see whats its worth on the world market...my guess is mega bucks....and Tony remember the world is filled with nasty bastards not just on film!cheers malcolm

Yes Malcolm, all I can say is that I agree.

Hanno, understand your point of veiw as well. Thought you were eluding to something but you were simply stating you'd like to see rock solid evidence. Something that's hard to obtain from yester year.

Did not mean to de-rail the thread as I would also like to to more about the vehicle itself regardless of its history... some under bonnet pics would be nice.

Nevertheless Hydriech himself is a topic, maybe not for here but one I am interested in. Probably shoud not express such a forceful opinion with little evidence after it. Have you seen the film Malcolm? "'Conspiracy" I think its called.

Default Heydriech

Tony I recently saw a documentry from french TV...which is probably nearer the truth..it would RH was butering up the Czech workers with high wages, social security, good food etc...and was immensly popular with the workers...of course these factories where very important to the german war effort...however mr.Churchill decided he needed stoping so sent over a couple of Free Czech Paratroopers to bump him off....you know the rest of the story!it wasnt until after the war that the communist goverment of Tito started to call him the "Hang man of Prague!" the truth is never ever black and white...but you are right a fascinating subject indeed!best regards malcolm

Is it me, or does the chrome waistline strip look to be a different shape on H's car compared to the blue one?

And if the rear wing that has been damaged, would it (even then) not be normal to replace it completely rather than just patch it up?

At the moment I'm sceptical. But am interested to see if the forensic boys come up with any traces of explosive.
