Question CMP Rarest Format

Hi As the owner of what is believed to be one of the only two remainig examples of a CMP C15 6-SEATER UTILITY or Australias version of the HUP, I am interested in the Forums opinion as to what would be the rarest but not necesarily the most sought after model of CMP still in existence.

Default Prototypes?

The pre-production prototypes in Canada could be considered rare by definition - also the prototype HUP... but other rather rare models would be things like the F60H and F60T.
As for the Australian types the Chevrolet No8 CGT is very rare - there is an intact body in Hobart under restoration and original examples of the CGT No9 are also interesting with only one of two built and completed surviving in cut down form (the rest are NOS bodies on rebuilt C15A chassis).
The 134" Chev Ambulance is also rare.

On the flip side probably the most common in Australia is the C60L dropside. In the special bodies department the C15 and C15A based Wireless Signals are fairly plentiful.

Hello Bob,

Welcome to this forum. One of the first questions one gets asked on this forum is: can we see pictures, please?!?

About rarest model of CMP still in existence, my vote would go to this Indian Pattern HUP - see Picture of back of ChevCMP India Backbody. AFAIK, there is only one survivor, but usually when someone makes such a statement someone else points out a field full of them . . .

Default CMP Rarest Format

Thanks for your replies, I thought the question may have raised more interest & opinions.
Hanno Ive been away for a few days so sorry I didnt get back sooner re photos, however I am not very good on the computer (read very poor) and dont know how to go about that, but if you go to the Old CMP website it is the same one Kieth did an article on some years ago when it was thought to be the only remaining one and is shown in Hugh Davis's block in South Australia. I had actually done a deal to purchase it with Hugh at that stage, but it is only in the last twelve months that Ive brought it back home. Kieth you may remember me talking to you about it at Corawa this year.
I am currently busy packing up the Unimog to leave on thursday for Pimpama for the start of our Trackers 2010 Convoy up to the Gulf of Carpentaria and then to Alice Springs which should be fun. In our case around 10000klm. with a lot of other restored mostly WW11 vehicles it should be a lot of fun. On the 2005 Trackers Convoy I took one of my Jeeps but this time were doing in much more comfort which should be better on my dicky back.

Bob, I'd have said anything with a specialist body starts getting into the rare camp. Up until a few weeks ago I'd only seen one photograph of the Australian pattern Bofors Light Anti-Aircraft Tractor (Blueprint for Victory, p.166) and assumed none had survived; then this was posted: http://www.mapleleafup.org/forums/sh...ad.php?t=14814

No doubt someone will say that a number have made into into preservation but to me it's a rarity...

Default No.6 bodies

Alan the No.6 whilst being a lot less common than the Australian Wireless Sigs is not unique by any means with at least two under restoration and some 8 to 10 more in existence. A number of them were converted to a light breakdown configuration after the war by removing the rear body and adding a jib to become the "Metropolitan Wrecker". They were also fitted with dual rear wheels (as were some of the No6 when in service).
In my 2002 DVD "Year of the Blitz" there are some disturbing scenes of a No6 body being demolished and scrapped at Hughes in Coburg.

Here's a shot of the rear of my No6 Artillery tractor body. The spare barrel compartment is the middle space. It is fitted with rollers to aid the removal and placement of the spare barrel box.

Alan, We have a very sound basis for a No.6 Artillery tractor as this is my WO-78 chassis which was a No.6 when new. It took me only days to locate the body. A photo and wanted advert at Corowa last year did the job almost instantly. (Thanks Robert).
