Kev here are some excerpts from my 2 pounder manual. Happy to copy other pages if needed. But Rob Van Meel has made a copy of my entire manual Here if you need it. 168 pages plus plates etc.

Thanks Ron, that's most helpful will order a copy, I'm also after the barrel dimensions for the Mk1 flared end barrel as seen here. I know yours is the later barrel profile.
Cheers Ron.

Kev there are pictures and plates of the various barrels but I haven't studied the manual lately to see if there are measurements. But I've found in the past that there is usually enough information for scaling purposes to see if most of the measurements are the same as my barrel. Ron

Has anyone got a spare one of these cam gears for the 2pdr mechanism?

Gents, Also does anyone happen to know if the 6pdr striker mechanism is the same size as the 2 pdr, so are interchangeable?

I don't think so Kev. My engineer mate who helped me no end with my 2 pounder project also made replicas of the 6 pounder striker for Nigel Montgomery's 6 pounder Churchill tanks and they are much bigger than my 2 pounder striker. Ron

Ron, do you have a photo of yours in position, I think a 6 pounder striker will fit in the 2 pdr block and engage, but it's shaft is longer so could be modified to resemble a 2 pdr one. I have a couple of 6 pdr deactivated strikers here.

The 6pdr striker is larger than the 2pdr striker in all dimensions. It is just scaled up from memory, but with an extra long front piece

Kev I think David is correct. I'm sure every dimension of the 6 pounder is bigger. Here is mine mounted. The one on the vice is another one that I acquired but long gone now. Ron

If you lay a 6 pdr block next to a 2 pdr block the hole and keysize I believe is physically the same, I'll make a comparison this evening and post photos.

I think the 6pdr striker was basically derived from the 2 pdr one, has anyone got a picturr comparison of a two pdr striker next to a 6 pdr one.

2pdr verus 6pdr
Here are the two for reference, the sleeve dia. appears to be the same, at about 31mm ( have not got my verniers at hand ) and the tube length is about 87mm on the 6pdr and 53mm on the 2pdr. from the face to ( that is the side that goes against the block ) is about 119mm overall length to end of firing pin and the 2pdr is about 98mm. The threads have about the same dia. at 40mm overall, so there you go, with a bit of rework you could quite easily fit a 6pdr into a 2pdr, as even the locating pins and safety mech are same dia. and in the same locations offset from the centre line the same, Cheers Andrew.

Thanks Andrew, looks like I will graft in a 6 pdr one into my 2pdr block, unless there is a 2pdr one available? 😜
Cheers.

If you do graft the 6pdr mech into the 2pdr block, you may have to alter the firing piece on the side of the breech ring to make it work with the 6pdr mech.

Blocks are cruciformed and welded.

But to be done to spec the firing mech hole should be welded and blocked to conform to the reg if you don't have a mech fitted

Mk I and IX barrel
Gents,
I've been to bovington tank museum and measured a 2pdr barrel in a Valentine tank. Ive attached a drawing here, the muzzle outside diameter at the tip is 2 7/8". The 53 1/32" dimension comes from a later stepped barrel. I've read on the internet there are two lengths of barrel, one with an overall length of 81.89" designated L/52 and an L/50 with an overall length of 79" although I've not read this in any official war office publication. Does anyone know or has a MkIX or X barrel to confirm its actual length when removed from the breech ring? Thanks Kevin.

Ron, yes looked at that but it's a later style and difficult to measure with the adaptor and ring on, but only found out about the L/52 and L/50 when I got back. Do any of the two total length measurements correspond with yours?
Here is the one in the rack at bovy
