| I am looking for a... Dodge T234

Board, I am searching for a Dodge T234, The description for this truck is: Truck, 3-ton, 4x2, Cargo 15000 supplied to China, 1944 - 1946, via the US Treasury Dept. under 2 contracts. Some were reportedly shipped to Australia. Bodywork was Model 4392 cab with 4397 platform or 4398 stake and platform. (source: http://www.autogallery.org.ru) The Power Wagon was similar in design to the 3/4-ton weapons carrier, with a 126-inch wheelbase, closed cab similar to the Dodge VC series trucks, and the front shell and grille similar to the T234 3/4-ton built by Dodge for the Chinese Army, also known as the “Burma Road truck.” So, if anyone, have info about this truck and where I can find one, please let me know. I really do love this type of truck. Thanks! Peter (lowbonnet@yahoo.com) |

| They all went....

... to the Burma Road,/ Stilwell Road, whatever it seems to have been called. I keep an eye open for any unusual Dodges, and I don't know of any survivors of this truck type at all, but I'd guess China, Burma, and Australia would be good places to look. I think it is pretty much a vanilla Dodge 3 ton or the period, but with the heaviest-duty suspension and steering they could get on there plus militarised front sheetmetal. Gordon

| Australian survivors

There at least two of these trucks I know of, both in Melbourne. John Belfield has one in his museum and another is in a wreckers in Footscray (Keith, I can give you directions). How these trucks got to Australia I don't know, but my guess is the old "refugee cargo" story.

Yes Hanno, Why don't you and I ship it to India and drive it to Europe - serious offer. You will note from the photo they could not decide if it needed 10.50x16 single wheels or 7.50x20 duals. I have a set of 8.25x20 bar treads and think I will put them on as duals. Should sit the truck up nicely and gear it up a bit on the road. Lang |
