Reunited at last .Now that the box has a good roof and good floor it was time to reunite it with the truck . It will be easier to move it in and out of the garage and take less room than when they were seperated .

Need a spare tire to fill that big hole on the side . Next a ladder to climb on the roof , Jerrican holders and tools & chain lockers for the underside . That will be it for this summer , i am flying across Canada again in August . Will try to see my MLU friends along the way . At least those living near an airport . Next winter i will do the interior finishing of the box .Meanwhile i will be checking for more original parts for this restoration . Give me a heads up if you find / have anything you are willing to sell / trade . Cheers for now .

Default time for a ladder

Fitted nicely the driver compartment doors , anchored the box tightly to the truck frame and built a roof ladder today.

Used bits and pieces composed of original ladder parts , gas line pipes and parts off an original more recent military ladder .

Got the left side shelving cabinet done , the wireless table , the two seat bases , seat rails . Finished the interior wood paneling with 1/4 inch thick plywood this time around . Much easier to fit . Monday i will finish the generator compartment . I will leave for later the fabrication of the exterior jerrycan holders and tool boxes .By the way : I need a CMP seat , anyone have a spare one for sale ?

These are the amazingly complicated seat bases used in this version of the wireless truck .

Thank you Harry . The picture is of the skeleton of the generator compartment . A lot of work to be done in there , wiring , electrical boxes , conduits , exhaust lines … but a lot of fun also !

Default Generator cabinet

Pretty much completed the generator cabinet today . Fitted the original period correct Canadian military Onan 10 LS on the bottom and a Johnson Chorehorse on top . The Onan is going to power the Canadian No 19 High Power set with it’s 110 Volts .

Default Switch plate on generator cabinet

Here is the original in my other box . I am going to try to reproduce it . Now with an Onan 110 V generator and only one Chorehorse , there is going to be a disused circuit .

Thank you Alex for your good words . I did not know if there was any interest in this restoration . Here we have period pictures to document the tool lockers .

Robert; don't worry...the lack of feedback doesn't mean people aren't watching. I am enjoying your project very much and I am sure others do too.

Thank you Alex .As for the passenger side tool locker a spacer is necessary because of the spare wheel well hence it is not flush with the box .

Self explanatory. Question remains : Was it to prevent losing tools and equipment when rolling around with the generators doors open or was it to prevent theft ? A : Maybe a little bit of both .

Making antenna brush guards is not an easy task . Bending that tubing without it collasping on itself is near impossible !Will continue on this on Monday .

Let me introduce you to Dorrick the master welder . Without his help i would be a cowboy without a horse . In the forefront the overbuilt , heavy , bullet proof 1 Gallon oil can locker . It goes on the left side ( passenger side ) of the truck rear and is bolted to the jerrycan locker . Thanks Bruce Parker .

Pack the tube full of dry sand before bending? (That was the usual approach to bending copper tubing if you didn't have a "pipe bending spring" of the appropriate size.)

Chris.

Default Onan generator

Here is a nice wartime pic of the elusive Onan 110/12 Volts 10LS generator that equiped some Wire -5 trucks and some HUW shop truck versions. Here it is being used to charge 6 Volts wireless set batteries in series using it’s 12 V output. It is noteworthy to say that all Wire-5 trucks were hard wired for 110 Volts but only those actualy fitted with a Canadian No 19HP set or the British No 19 HP version or in post-war with a No 52 set were they equiped with the Onan .Photo NA 12960 Imperial War Museum collection .
