Default Post War Imperials-Turkey for David

Hi David:

This may not work as it was a full page from a magazine. If it doesn't, I will email it to you.
Regards
Bill

Default Nice one!

I have heard that the Turks cut-and-shut lots of vehicles to create taxis. Would these have been left over after US servicemen went home?

Most likely yes David.
Those photos were taken late '70s, early '80s and Turkey was a lot poorer then than even now. Due to it's geographical location, there was a lot of US military activity there from the end of WWII till the fall of the Soviet Union. Lots of cars and trucks were left behind.

On the other hand, the photos I have sent along now and then of such vehicles coachbuilt in Switzerland, Scandinavia, Western Europe and elsewhere were almost always built on new chassis.

I have also seen such "hack" jobs in Greece and Eastern South America.

Today, as you know, such vehicles are still being built all over the world, almost all on new chassis and almost all as limousines and hire cars. I just like the older ones.

Regards
Bill

Default Turkey

Gents:
The Cubans haven't had parts or mechanical assistance since 1958. They pride themselves on being the "best mechanics in the word." Some of their vehicles have been converted to deisel engines of unknown origin.
