ID Please

Found this on the Aussie site Cliff so kindly told us about.
It is described as a truck used as a Land Train which is I guess unique to OZ.
Any ideas?

Bill,

The prime mover was built by AEC and trailers by Dyson, known as the Government Road Train, shipped to Oz in 1934. It is now restored and on display at the Road Transport museum in Alice Springs, NT. This was a diesel power truck, there was another built, that went to the Gold Coast in Africa, powered by a petrol engine. Total payload was 15 tons, 6 on each trailer and 3 on the prime mover. It operated from Alice Springs to other outposts of the Northern Territory.

Just going to bed now! But a quick message to say, there were two and that the other one went to Africa, as I explained. I have a very detailed account of its development and use in Australia.

And here she is in all her glory and restored. In fact this vehicle was the catalyst for the creation of the Road Transport Hall of Fame in Alice Springs.

The correct terminology out here is Road Train.

That thing would have fit right in with the other vehicles in Mel Gibson's Mad Max films wouldn't it.
