I think you may be correct.

I used to have bookmarked a Jersey Historical Society site that had a lot of confiscated vehicle photos both civilian and military but it never got updated so I deleted it.

I think I remember that photo being there but this particular shot I found on ebay.de quite a while ago.

I think the 6-wheeler is an early Morris-Commercial C-type. The attached is a 1932 Model, serial 004. The 'MC 9688' rego appears to be bogus...it was originally on a Belsize! Unless it was a re-issue for the War Department of course.

Finally got two days off in a row

Here are two Australian staff cars. The second is a 1937 Buick and the first I can only guess at. It looks a bit Humberish but could also be a senior Austin or Vauxhall. I will leave it to the British car experts.

As it is a long body it could have been a Humber Pullman limousine, but not with the two spare wheels on the side. There are shadows or reflections on the bonnet (hood to you!), which make it look like the chrome bonnet flutes on a Vauxhall. I think I would go for something from North America.

When I first got the photo, I thought it was a 1935 Chevrolet but the limo body threw me. Now I remeber David's famous Chevrolet Imperials and this could fit the bill.

As Holden's did all the American Chevs, Holdens and Vauxhalls it is sometimes a bit dicey to positively ID some of the mid thirties vehicles. This is, of course, a pretty poor photo which doesn't help. Looking through Eddie Ford's book "The History of Holden since 1917" one can see a lot of Vauxhalls that are quite close to this one too.

Sorry to have to correct you Bill, but Norm Darwin wrote The History of Holden since 1917, ISBN 0.959.2287.05. Eddie Ford is the publisher.

I write for Eddie's RESTORED CARS magazine, and he and Norm are long time friends though I have only met Norm and his wife. I was thinking Holden - bodied 'big Vauxhall'?

In the 1970's, I used to supply him with "photo articles" of pictures I took of vintage cars in daily use in South America and Southern Europe. At that time, he also published a magazine I think was called "Rods & Customs".

for many years he had no e mail! I had to use FAX or even ring him. Yes he did ROD & CUSTOM for a time but RC remains bi-monthly like VRS. It was and is a great mag....hope that they donpt have 113 F in Daylesford, Victoria like Sydney! Hottest temp I recall was 108 in Formantera, Balearic Islands, Spain. However dad was in Egypt 1947-8 and it used to get so hot that they fried eggs on the bonnets of the trucks.

The biggest Vauxhall that might fit the bill was the GY, produced 1937-39 and was assembled and bodied by Holden....a sort of British Chevrolet! The GL had a shorter wheelbase.

I am no expert but it appears to be a 1939 91A or E91A...the registration is a Middlesex Countu Council one in a series allocated to the Air Ministry, and fits in with a date of May 1939 from rego records though it could be out-of-sequence. The rego seems to suggest that this is a Ministry car not military, hence no RAF number.
