C30 engine cover
Hi All
I wonder if you can help me with some info.I have a C30 that I hope to start restoring soon, but it is missing the engine cover.I have found a Ford one for sale and would like to know if the Ford and Chevy ones are the same or even similar? Would it be near enough for now until I can find a Chevy one or will it not fit at all? Your help would be much appreciated Daren |

Yeh,sorry forgot to mention that.It is a No13 cab and was originaly a Wireless body,rumour has it kitted as a dentist truck.There is no back body at all now so I think I will built a GS body.I will try to post some pics over the weekend.I live in Jersey in the Channel Islands UK. Daren |

Hi Max
Glad to hear another CMP is being restored. If you can not find an engine cover then my question will apply. I'll be glad to do up a set of drawings for the Chevy Cab 13 engine box or dog house. Really not all that complicated they were designed to be made with out fancy tool and dies. Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,
That would be great Phil.Also photos would be much appreciated.I have visited your site and gained a lot of useful information already!!! I am a classic and vintage car restorer by trade as well as hobby and specialise in the bodywork and fabrication side so making an engine from scratch would not be a problem if I know what it looks like.I know a gentleman in the Island with an F15 which I could look at also.I cant work out how to attach a photo at the moment.Will persevere!!!! Daren, have you found Keith Webb's old cmp site on the web.
Keith has a lot of photos on there of these lovely old trucks, My wife Kathy says once you have one of these blitz's ( cmp) its an incurable disease, which only gets worse as the years go by, but I thhink I have learnt to control it (better not ask Kathy). Max |

Hi All
Thanks for all your help and info so far.Where abouts are you Victor? I live in Jersey which is the biggest of a group of islands off the south coast of England.A lot closer to France (15miles at closest point) although we answer to the British crown!!! Any photos would be appreciated. Phil and Max your comments about CMP ownership are worrying!!!! My long suffering girlfriend is of the impression the my Chevy is the end of my collection not the beginning.I have a 101FC Land Rover and an Ex Army 110 Land Rover as well as various motorbikes and classic cars!!!! Need armour next!! I have checking out Keiths site and as with Phils has loads of info. Thanks for those photos Keith.What are those info plates visible on the cover and is it possible for me to find these if they are appropriate to my truck? Maybe it would be possible to talk to Keith Orpin in the future.Where abouts in the UK does he live? Still can't do pics!!!! Thanks again for your time Daren |

Plates
The top one is a standard brass Canadian plate with gearshift and other info including the contract number 2196.
The lower one is the actual data plate for the vehicle with engine and chassis number, as well as the type of body, as denoted by "WO 18" (War Office type 18). WO 18 was a 8444 (C60S) Battery Staff Personnel Loading K2 The "M" suffix denotes a Melbourne assembled vehicle. Usually this plate was affixed to the top of the dash.

C15/30 cover Engine
Hi all.
FC101DaZ says: it is missing the engine cover. I think what we need is some measurements to an engine cover and............ if possible an isometric projection.. for a Chev... that would make making a reproduction one very easy.. then a fold out of tin would be easier Thanks in advance... once the measurements are here we can all use em! Ian I think you're right and I think Phil is the man in the chair!!! Why is the cover known as the dog house? A phrase I am used to as I'm normally in it!!!!!!!

When looking at these great pictures I couldn't help but notice the push button that had been mounted on top of the dash panle. It looks to be the same kind as Pete Ashby was selling a few months ago.

Hi Daren,
Nice to see another C30 being restored, if you check though the archives on this site, you should find some pictures of mine, during restoration. As Pete so rightly suggested, I have only just come back from hols in France (no sign of any CMP's down by La Rochelle). I live approx 10 miles south of Oxford, oddly enough in the same village as where the rest of the OCMP vehicles are kept. I'll take some pictures of my engine cover and post them shortly. First step in Doghouse Drawings
Ok, had a moment to pull both engine covers Dog Houses off to compare and start drawings on the CAD. First despite how the pictures below may appear the two covers are the same dimensions. The OD one is off my `45 HUP and I'm sure that it is original to the vehicle, the Tan is off my `42 C60S given the mix and match nature of military service this may not be original to the truck. The covers are made up of a lot of small pieces of steel welded together. I’m working on a set of cad drawings that will have photos as well to show how the parts are put together.

fire bracket
HELLO PHIL
That bracket top the engine cover is that an original one the type i see over here are longer and some seem to be post war . did you ever run your GENERATOR M5 mine runs lovely except you have to keep the fuel tank toped up i think i have come to far down from the bottom of the tank with the pipe as it sloaps up to the carb and it does not seem to like it. WHILE you have your drawing hat on i could do with knowing how to connect the wires from the dynamo to the regulater if ever you find the time that would be very helpful . regards vic uk.

Wonder if they meant to mount the fire extinguisher on the out side of the cab? As to the M5 generator yes it runs like a charm have several hundred hours on it. Ran it at our summer rally for four days straight supplying power to my truck (air conditioner and hot water heater) the registration tent and to the radio display. People are amazed how quiet it is. As to the fuel tank only problem I’ve had is that when gage says empty it is empty even if you can see fuel in the tank. It just will not start with less than 2” of fuel but if the generator is sitting level it will run the tank bone dry. Not sure which “how to connect the wires from the dynamo to the regulator if ever you find the time that would be very helpful .” you mean the DC or AC circuit I assume on the M5. Thanks yet again for all your advice.All the pics are great.I hope others will also benefit from all your work Phil then I won't feel so guilty about putting you through it all!!!!! I have added my location I think Lynn!! I really like your Wire bodies Martin.It makes me wonder if it is possible to built a replica of one of these.I had only considered a GS body as I assumed it would be easier to fabricate.When you say one has the original body do you mean that you built the other or aquired it separately? What goes between the cab and body,a spare wheel mount? I have all this missing too!Also like those tyres!!!! Where did they come from?!!! Daren |

Wireless body
Hi Daren,
I have one chev with the original body (as picture) and the other is having holmes wrecker gear mounted on the back. Yes there is a spare wheel carrier bettween the cab and the body, the tyres are IMO1 10-50 X 16 they cost about £100 each new. Would you like me to e-mail you some pictures of the body?
