  Jif, I think you'll find in the modern 'Strine the word has changed to 'Bastard' not the archaic 'Bugger' in the sense of describing a person or persons. One possible reason why 'Bugger' is falling into disuse is it has begun to be used in TV commercials and therefore loses it's sting somewhat. It is however used in the sense of something being damaged, destroyed or simply worn out, and there are also synonyms like 'Rooted' and the ultimate 'F&%@ed', where the former are used in polite company and the latter used for instance between blokes describing a CMP found in the corner of an old sawmill.
