Around Portsmouth then, the Dockyard is expensive but worthwhile, you CANNOT come down here and not see HMS Victory and HMS Warrior; the Mary Rose is there also and frankly rather boring. The D-Day Museum is worth a miss though. Then the Royal Armouries at Fort Nelson, the forts around Portsmouth are fascinating and the stuff at Nelson together with the Fort itself is of interest. Submarine Museum at HMS Dolphin (Take the harbour ferry from near the Dockyard) Golden Lion at Southwick - ask Geoff. . . . . . . . . . . . . . You may be able to get into the Map Room (Ike's office) at HMS Dryad, its all in limbo with the base being sold off, still operating and Southwick House being a piece of national heritage. Allegedly you need to contact the curator of Portsmouth Museum. Best give me a call seeing as how I live 15 mins away. . . . . . . . R. |
