Matt, you need to top coat it, Now!
Primer is generally porous and if it gets damp, rusting starts. you are fortunate to be on a fairly low humidity, bit of the planet.
Keep your eyes open for better wheels.
Try getting hold of Ron Winfer. He had quite a few a while back.
