Now we have some solid information to work with. He had some hand-painted writing on the bike translated as "Nippon Oil and Machine Company" from a local elderly Japanese lady. No other markings on it anywhere. I will pass this great information on to him. I'm sure you have just made his day.  Thanks again, David
