Well, it's called "Canada Day" now, but some of us old-timers prefer the original, thank you very much...
![]() On this date in 1867, Canada officially became a self-governing dominion under the British flag as personnified by an appointed Governor General, who acted as the reigning monarch's personal representative to the country. All matters of law and state were, however, now decided by an independently elected Canadian parliament acted under the purvue of the British North America act, which sadly, exists no longer. However, more than a hundred years of heritage and tradition had begun, most of which has survived to this day, even in the face of the evolution of this country and its population!
