Default Artillery Paralleloscope Prism Identification

I am wondering if anyone can provide me with some extra insight on this piece. It is marked as "Paralleloscope Prism No.1. Mk.2". I have identified that it is used for artillery sighting; could anyone give a brief description of how it is used as well as when it is from and if there are any particular artillery that it would have been used with. Thank-you!
