To the best of my knowledge, the Canadian Army Registration Number (CAR) (later re-named the Cdn Forces Registration or CFR) would have gone on the doors. With the spare tire in the way, it may have been located on the hood.

I have not seen occurrences of it on the back. There were commercial plates early on.

As for markings, I did provide an electronic copy of the 1947 manual of Cdn markings to a number of MLUers. It was on my last (now expired) computer, but I am sure if you ask others on here will have it. Actually, come to think of it, I emailed it to myself, so I could recover it from my inbox if you would like a copy.
