Ron Pier... it kept me awake, on and off over some seven years.
Was it a left-over from an early stowage design? Did a portion of the BREN tripod some how touch that area? If the PIAT or Boys was mounted on the engine deck, did a portion of either somehow need clearance? What about the change from the smaller engine ventilation screen of the MK-I* and UC-2 made of copper wire? The screens are not interchangeable between the MK-I* and the MK-II*, could that be a clue?
