The Stuart Tanks at Elliotts came from the creek behind Levy's. During Hurricane Hazel the back earth berm on the west side of Levy's collapsed taking four or five tanks down the hill. Afterwards they sent workers down the hill to strip any saleable parts.
In 1976 Don Smith decided his future was in those hulls and turrets and talked the local Engineers group into helping him pull them out. Not easy, but they did it and three hulls and turrets were taken to Don's Downsview Shop. Three years later he sold one hull and turret for scrap. But the guy took the wrong one, He got the one with all the hatches, engine covers and road wheels. The other two sat on the base. The Base Commander threatened legal action if he didn't get rid of them. After him asking me to get rid of them I caller Elliotts and told them to come and get the two left. They were given away for future consideration, which wa later refused. One hull went east the other north to a Jeep Dealer.
