Default Zenith Carburetors

I have worked on two Carrier engines recently and both have suffered from the same problem of flat spots caused by the pistons in the carburetor accelerator pumps seizing in their bores.

Even my spare Nos Carburetor in its original sealed box had the same problem.

Is this a common problem with Zenith Carburetors or have I just been unlucky?
